Our clients were installing a new building at the back of the garden and wanted to redesign the garden simultaneously.
The existing garden levels did not work, so the clients requested a ‘level playing field’ for their sons’ football and a more plant focused garden with strong, bright colours.
A large existing oak tree halfway down the garden created its own challenges. Our design needed to maximise the shade of the tree’s canopy, so a decked area was built underneath the oak using treated railway sleepers and a swing seat suspended from its branches. We then under lit the edge of the deck, for evening parties.
We excavated the ground to create a lawn and terrace at one level and the beds were planted using a hot bright palette of orange, white, purple and lime green plants.
The garden now functions as a level play space, a relaxing area and provides the colour and scented interest all year round that our clients wanted.
