This terrace had the most spectacular views overlooking the River Thames and the Barnes wetlands – but was part of a 1960’s block of flats with austere brickwork and a patch of well worn astroturf which did little to enhance the view.
Our clients, who work from home, felt they would like a more stylish design especially their main view from the living room was the astroturf and high brick walls beyond.
We designed a hardwood decked area in 2 levels and used batten screening to divide the area. Although the views are stunning the wind is a problem, as it comes straight off the river and some extra protection was needed.
We commissioned bespoke planters in turquoise blue and built a fort with a telescope for the clients’ 5 year old son. The fort not only provided a special play area, but doubled up as storage space for outdoor toys when entertaining.
We designed lighting for the evening and planted using roses and lavenders, interspersed with some swiss chard, lettuces and herbs, so the family could pick their own salads.
