The clients saw our winning show garden at Urban Gardens, Olympia and wanted us to create a chill-out zone for them and their teenage children in a neglected space outside the kitchen leading to the garage.
Our brief was an extensive seating area for entertaining, a sunken hot tub, all year round planting and subtle lighting. They had travelled extensively in the Far East and Australia so we took that as our inspiration for the garden.
We hid the garage with willow ‘blinds’ suspended from a frame of stained railway sleepers which were staggered to create a series of ‘rooms’ leading to the main seating area. The screens acted as a shelter for the hot tub, and the benches were also built from sleepers.
We commissioned a custom-made spun copper bowl for the water feature and used exotic plants such as Dicksonias, loquats and bamboos to give the clients and their children their dream garden.
