Clapham White Garden

This Clapham courtyard was unloved when we first saw it, and the space was dark and overgrown. The design brief was to create a light, bright and sociable garden in which to entertain in. For the design we put in painted weatherboarding to lift the space and then used 5 standard Olives, with their light silvery leaves as our focal point.

As our clients loved hosting we designed 2 built in benches, as well as adding in a large table and chairs. Our client was Italian and wanted to have lots of Mediterranean planting, we kept the scheme very simple using fragrant herbs such as Rosemary, and scented Roses, we also added in a large Fig tree in the centre of the garden, to provide interest and break up the space.

Our client owned a homewares shop in Clapham and so she added many of the styling touches to the garden, creating a beautiful ‘room outdoors’.
