Hertfordshire Hall Gardens and Lake
A garden of many parts, this was the third project we had worked on for our clients, and by far the largest.
A beautiful country estate, the property and grounds underwent a full renovation. We worked with our clients closely to design multiple garden areas, to complement the Hall and its surrounding buildings. We made sure to create a harmonious scheme directly around the hall and neighbouring ‘Party barn’, incorporating existing beds, but updating the planting and creating new areas of interest, we created a number of pergola areas and a new Well bed for interest in the main courtyard.
Out in one of the fields near the house a small lake was created, complete with an island accessible by rowing boat for campfires and family adventures. On the Island we planted a number of indigenous trees and native pond plants to give the new lake a naturalistic and mature appearance within the landscape.
Our clients installed a new indoor swimming pool building, around which we added a gravel garden and a long herbaceous border, and to the rear of the building a generous sweeping deck in sustainable timber, complete with cut out areas to accommodate moss covered boulders and a large stone clad raised bed, planted up with a huge Strawberry tree to sit under with an evening drink in hand. From the sun deck we created large beds full of movement, including swaying grasses leading down to existing ponds, around which the beds of water loving plants, as well as two beautiful mature wisteria finish off this peaceful view.
The project is on-going, with us currently working on a natural outdoor pool, with new planting beds, which we can’t wait to see take shape.
