Thameside Teddington Garden
Situated on a creek on the Thames in Teddington, our brief was for as unusual a garden as the setting it was in.
Our clients were a family of four, and we worked with them over a couple of years as they completely redeveloped their waterside property, complete with smart new boathouse.
Excitingly, for this project we had the freedom to design large areas of planting since our brief excluded a traditional lawn. Without the restrictions of this customary garden element, we were left with plenty of space for generous planting beds, which we filled with an array of mature multi stemmed trees, drifts of bright herbaceous perennials and swathes of grasses to provide movement. For height and special interest we craned in 7 large boulders, and for the children, installed a bespoke oak swing surrounded by herbs. The garden was completed with the addition of a charred larch fence, planted with bright climbers.
We installed a deep terrace constructed from laser cut large scale 'crazy paving'. Flowing from the terrace, and down 5 generous floating York stone steps, we designed a large snaking path leading to the boathouse at the bottom of their garden, and finally to a lower terrace where the family can sit to enjoy watching creek life pass them by.
